THE OSEEN. FLOW PAST A CIRCULAR DISK

L. M. HOCKING

( (University College London) )

The streaming motion of a viscous liquid past a circular disk, fixed normal to the stream, is found on the basis of Oseen's approximation by taking distributions of singular solutions of the equations of motion over the surface of the disk. The solution is found for low Reynolds numbers in the form of a series expansion in the Reynolds number. The solution is also found for high Reynolds numbers, although the Oseen approximation is then invalid-in the boundary layer and the wake, and the drag coefficient is found to be about twice the experimental value.
