LINE-LOADINGS ON FINITE LENGTH CYLINDRICAL SHELLS—SOLUTION BY THE FINITE FOURIER TRANSFORM{dagger}

WILLIAM A. NASH and T. F. BRIDGLAND, JR.

( University of Florida, College of Engineering Gainesville

The linear equations due to Flügge for the thin elastic circular cylindrical shell are solved by the use of the finite Fourier transform for two general cases of radial line-loadings on a finite length shell. The loadings considered are: (a) an arbitrary line-load acting along a generator, and (b) an arbitrary line-load applied around the circumference. The solution presents the orthogonal displacement components of the middle surface in the form of rapidly converging series.
