RADIAL JETS WITH SWIRL
PART I. INCOMPRESSIBLE FLOW
( Department of Mathematics, Durham Colleges Durham )
A new similarity solution of the incompressible laminar boundary-layer equations for radial flow, in the absence of a pressure gradient, when there is an axially-symmetrical swirling component of velocity is presented. The application to flow in radial jets is discussed and the radial free jet, radial wall jet and radial liquid jet are treated in detail. Departures from similarity in the swirling component of velocity are examined and when the swirling is weak the similarity solution for the purely radial flow provides a solution for the radial component of velocity and the swirling component is expressed as an eigenfunction expansion.
