ON THE FLOW IN A CHANNEL DUE TO A PERIODIC PRESSURE GRADIENT

D. G. DRAKE

( Department of Applied Mathematics, The University Liverpool )

This paper considers the flow of an incompressible viscous fluid in a long channel of rectangular section due to a periodic pressure gradient. Asymptotic forms, valid for large values of the frequency, are obtained for the velocity and the skin-friction. The mean-square velocity is found and its variation over the cross-section of the channel is discussed.
