A theory is developed for the incompressible, two-dimensional flow of an inviscid liquid past an array of similar hydrofoils, behind each of which extends a cavity of finite length. Relations between the cavitation number, the cavity length and the shape of the wetted surface are established. The simplest case, that of flat plate hydrofoils cavitating from their leading edges, is described in some detail. A method of solving the resultant equations is derived and lift coefficients evaluated for a number of configurations. The results are compared with those computed from linearized theory.
