ON THE FORMULATION OF CONSTITUTIVE EQUATIONS IN THERMODYNAMICAL THEORIES OF CONTINUA

In this paper we investigate the consequences of a variety of constitutive postulates. We take the basic thermodynamical equations as our guide in formulating the constitutive equations. In particular, we find a thermodynamical interpretation for Cauchy elasticity.
