ON THE CONTINUUM THEORIES OF DISLOCATIONS AND PLASTICITY

The continuum theory of dislocations given by Truesdell and Noll (1) is related to the dipolar continuum mechanics of Green and Rivlin (2) and the plasticity theory of Green and Naghdi (3). A specific relation for the dislocation density in terms of plastic strain is noted.
