TWO-DIMENSIONAL BOUNDARY LAYER THEORY WITH STRONG BLOWING

L. ELLIOTT

( Department of Mathematics, University of Leeds )

Fluid is blown into the boundary layer with a velocity which is large on the boundary layer scale. Solutions for two regions of the boundary layer are matched together on streamlines that originate from the neighbourhood of the forward stagnation point. The general theory is applied to boundary layer flow corresponding to potential flow past a circular cylinder with a certain constant velocity of blowing and the results compared with the numerical values of Bussmann and Ulrich.
