A BOUNDARY LAYER METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE VISCOUS DAMPING OF SMALL AMPLITUDE GRAVITY WAVES
( Department of Mathematics, University of Reading )
A method is developed in which the technique of matched asymptotic expansions is used to calculate viscous damping effects in gravity wave phenomena. The theory is introduced with reference to gravity wave propagation along a density-viscosity discontinuity between two immiscible fluids of finite depth. For infinite depths, the resulting formulae are found to reduce to a result of Harrison (1).
