BRANCHING ANALYSIS FOR THE TAYLOR PROBLEM

K. KIRCHGÄSSNER and P. SORGER

( Institut für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik der DVL Freiburg )

In this paper a constructive method is presented for the calculation of the Taylor vortices as branching solutions of the nonlinear Navier-Stokes boundary-value problem. The method is based upon an abstract version of the theory of Schmidt-Lyapunov. The efficiency of the procedure is tested by comparison of numerical results with various experimental data for the mean torque and the higher harmonies.
