THE QUASI-TRANSVERSE CONSTANT PROFILE WAVE IN FINITE ELASTICITY

The quasi-transverse constant profile wave is investigated in detail, and an approximate solution is found. When this wave becomes discontinuous an isothermal shock can be introduced into the solution, and a detailed discussion is given for a special class of materials. Comparison is made with Whitham's approach to the breakdown of the constant profile wave.
