COMBINED AXIAL AND TORSIONAL SHEAR OF A TUBE OF INCOMPRESSIBLE ISOTROPIC ELASTIC MATERIAL

R. W. OGDEN {dagger}, P. CHADWICK and E. W. HADDON

( School of Mathematics and Physics, University of East Anglia Norwich )

The combined axial and torsional shear of a circular cylindrical tube of incompressible isotropic elastic material is considered. Principal axes of stress and strain play an important role in the analysis. This approach leads directly to certain universal relations between the stress components and, in principle, to the solution for the deformation functions. Specific results are obtained for a particular class of constitutive laws and discussed in detail.
