THE INTERACTION OF SOUND WITH A SEMI-INFINITE VORTEX SHEET
( Department of Mathematics, The University Dundee )
The sound field produced by a line source near a semi-infinite vortex sheet which trails from a rigid plate is calculated exactly in a linear theory. It is found that the vortex sheet cannot leave the plate with zero gradient when the sound is harmonic and the flow supersonic on one side of the sheet. Consequently the full Kutta condition cannot be applied in this case and a modified condition is proposed which overcomes this difficulty.
