THE NON-LINEAR SPLIT-DISC PROBLEM

The present discussion is intended to complement that in (4), by developing a formal asymptotic analysis for the title problem when the Rossby number is large compared with the one quarter power of the Ekman number. A clear understanding of the basic balance of forces in the different flow regimes is shown, and the orders of magnitude of all the flow variables are determined. However, more complete quantitative information throughout the fluid still requires the utilization of some approximate numerical method.
