ON THE RELATIVE STRENGTHS OF INTRINSIC STABILITY CRITERIA
GARETH P. PARRY
(

)
The convexity of the internal energy, regarded as a function of any generalized coordinates, determines the classical stability of a material in a particular loading environment. The main content of the paper is a theorem which allows the comparison of such criteria of convexity for a far wider class of generalized coordinates than previously. Orthotropic material symmetry is assumed throughout.
