A NOTE ON THE STABILITY OF HORIZONTAL STRATIFIED SHEAR FLOWS OF AN INVISCID COMPRESSIBLE FLUID

A necessary condition for linear stability of stratified horizontal flows of an inviscid compressible fluid is found by the generalized progressing-wave expansion method. It is shown that stability is obtainable only if the shear in the horizontal directions vanishes.
