THE ELECTROSTATICS OF TWO COAXIAL AND MUTUALLY DISTANT CIRCULAR TORI
( Department of Mathematics, University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez, Puerto Rico 00708 )
The electrostatic problem of two coaxial circular tori is approached by considering their mutual influence according to a forward and backward iteration process, starting from the solution of the problem of a single freely-charged torus. The process leads to results which should be good for the sufficiently large separation of sufficiently slender tori, and formulae are obtained for capacity and mechanical interaction. The main interest in the solution, however, is that it has a complementary role in the two-torus theory in general, by allowing interpolation with the theory for mutually close tori.
