STEADY STATE OSCILLATORY TEMPERATURES IN COUPLED QUASI-STATIC THERMOELASTICITY

W. A. DAY

( Hertford College Oxford )

This paper is about the steady-state temperature field in a thermoelastic slab whose faces are subjected to prescribed oscillatory temperatures. Asymptotic formulae, valid at low frequencies, are found for the mean square temperature, heat flux, stress, and strain, the means being taken with respect to both space and time. The effect of coupling is examined, and some bounds on the mean square temperature, heat flux, and stress are established. It is shown that the pointwise mean square temperature and heat flux take their maximum values on the faces of the slab.
