EQUILIBRIUM OF A SINGULAR-STRESS SURFACE APPEARING IN A FIBRE-REINFORCED MATERIAL
( Department of Mechanical Engineering II, Tohoku University Sendai 980, Japan )
General equilibrium conditions of a singular-stress surface appearing in a compressible material with internal kinematical constraints of inextensibility in the preferred direction are established for finite deformations as well as for incremental deformations by borrowing the equilibrium equations from the membrane theory of shells. Plane-deformation versions of those conditions are also obtained. To demonstrate some utility of the conditions, we applied them to a simple bifurcation problem, that is, an axisymmetric buckling of an axially fibre-reinforced circular hollow cylinder under axial compression.
