THE LIFT AND MOMENT ACTING ON A CIRCULAR-ARC AEROFOIL IN A STREAM BOUNDED BY A PLANE WALL{dagger}

( Physical Institute, Faculty of Science, University of Kyoto Kyoto, Japan )

The lift and moment of an aerofoil in the form of a circular are placed in a stream bounded by a plane wall are discussed. The earlier work of Green (1) and Hudimoto (7) on this problem is reviewed and by adopting a method similar to that of Hudimoto it is found that when the camber of the aerotoil is small the effect of the wall on the lift and moment is similar to that for an aerofoil in the form of a flat plate, namely, as the arc-aerofoil approaches the wall the lift and moment coefficients first decrease and then increase to values which are greater than the corresponding values for an arc-aerofoil in an unlimited stream.
