ON THE TWO-DIMENSIONAL PROBLEM OF A SEMI-INFINITE ELASTIC BODY COMPRESSED BY AN ELASTIC PLANE

H. OKUBO

( Institute of High Speed Mechanics, Tohoku University Sendai, Japan )

An approximate solution of the two-dimensional problem of an elastic foundation compressed by a pillar is given, account being taken of the elasticity of the pillar. It is found that the contact pressure between the two elastic planes in contact has a tendency to concentrate at both edges of the prism.
