QJMAM: A SHORT HISTORY

C. W. JONES

( 14 Brompton Terrace, Perth PH2 7DH )

The Quarterly Journal of Mechanics and Applied Mathematics serves the professional interests of a wide range of mathematicians and engineers by providing a medium for the prompt publication of original papers in the general field of mechanics, and in particular in theoretical mechanics. The main subjects catered for by the Journal are continuum mechanics (including all branches of the mechanics of fluids and solids), classical electromagnetism, nonlinear dynamics and combined fields such as magnetohydrodynamics, together with relevant mathematical and numerical methods. Although the discussion of experimental technique falls outside the sphere of interest of the Journal, theoretical analyses of experiments are not excluded and the inclusion of experimental results in papers of theoretical interest is encouraged. It is not the present policy of the Journal to publish review articles or book reviews. Papers are accepted for publication only after careful scrutiny and must meet standards of presentation compatible with the high standard of production of the Journal. In recent years the Journal has become increasingly international, both in coverage and circulation, and contributions are welcomed from all parts of the world.
