EDGE WAVES OVER A SLOPING BEACH

D. V. EVANS

( Department of Mathematics, University of Bristol Bristol BS8 1TW )

A constructive method is described for producing bounded edge-wave solutions over a sloping beach on which a mixed boundary condition is imposed. The method extends ideas of Whitham to provide a solution in the form of a sum of exponentials which reduces to the Ursell edge-wave solution in a special case, and which agrees with the Greenspan edge-wave solution for a stratified fluid.
